Dr Richard Olley

Richard Olley PhD JD MHA B App Sc Dip App Sc FCHSM CHE 

Dr Richard Olley is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of Medicine and Dentistry at Griffith University. He also works in the aged care sector as the Leader Advocate for Bolton-Clarke, one of Australia’s largest aged care providers, where he also supports and helps develop aged care leaders. His research interests include health services leadership (particularly aged care leadership); management in health services; health services law and regulatory controls; clinical governance and quality and safety in health care; and health workforce in the acute and aged and community care sectors.

Richard commenced his career in health services as a nurse. He specialised in mental health, emergency, operating room, and intensive care working clinically and teaching in these areas. Richard’s executive-level healthcare career includes appointments at the Director of Nursing level and 35 years of experience in other executive leadership roles at the CEO level roles at large regional and metropolitan hospitals such as Logan-Beaudesert District Health Service, Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and Health Services. His leadership and management experience encompasses acute health care, aged care, and community care sectors. Richard also is experienced in aged and community care leadership. An experienced health services management executive, Richard now holds an adjunct academic appointment at Griffith University in the School of Medicine and Dentistry, where he teaches and researches Health Services Management in areas that include health care systems, health workforce, health workforce planning, applied ethics and law.

A Fellow of the Australasian College of Health Services Management (ACHSM), Richard holds credentials as a Certified Health Executive. He is the Chief Examiner for the Australasian College of Health Services Management Fellowship program, where he successfully designed, wrote, and implemented the online content for Fellowship preparation and an online professional development course in Professional and Social Responsibility. Richard is also a Director on the ACHSM National Board and Vice-President of the Queensland Branch of ACHSM.
