About Relationally Oriented Leadership

Relational leadership is an approach that emphasises building solid and positive relationships between leaders and their team members. Its emphasis on collaboration, trust, communication, and mutual respect among all members of an organisation or group characterises it.

This course is related to the development of positive interpersonal relationships, and in the context of this program, it is related to work relationships. However, the concepts discussed here also apply to other relationships. Human relationships are based on the ability of a person to interact in a healthy, positive manner with others; this is the foundation of solid and healthy relationships.

Relationships are a large part of what makes us human. Organisational leaders create systems and communication channels that enable group relationships in the workplace and one-on-one solid relationships with colleagues, whether they are team members, peers or those in an organisationally senior role. It incorporates leaders and their followers and between team members. It also consists of relationships between the organisation’s team members and those external to the organisation, such as clients, suppliers and even competitors.

We explore concepts such as leaders’ relational orientation and examine the implications for organisational functioning and success. Leaders must understand how their behaviour affects others in the organisation. Orientated leaders are comfortable with themselves and their behaviour toward others. They perceive the strengths and weaknesses of each team member and work assiduously to build on strengths to minimise the effects of weaknesses on the team and the organisation because they have a clear purpose and can communicate this purpose and influence their teams to achieve it.
